Science
This week in Science we investigated the nutrients that plants need to stay healthy. We learnt the name of each nutrient and it's function. 4B noticed that some of the nutrients were also needed for healthy growth in humans too. In the lab we became 'plant doctors' and used our knowledge of nutrients and their functions to diagnose poorly plants with their nutrient deficiency. |
This week it has been great to see all the scientific home learning that has been happening too. Many children in 4B attempted to grow a seed. Some efforts were more successful than others but we used this as a learning opportunity and discussed which variables may have effected the plants growth.
English
In English this week we started our new text type of persuasive letters. We explored the features of this text including; facts and opinions, formal tone, persuasive phrases and rhetorical questions. Next week we will be writing our own persuasive letters about the negative effects of deforestation.
Topic
In our topic lessons we have been preparing for next weeks class assembly. We also looked at the effects that humans have had, and are having, on the rain forest. We discussed the four main types of destruction of the rain forest and their consequences. We will use this information in our persuasive letters next week.
