In English we have been writing diaries about a prince or a pauper and we have been giving two stars and a wish. We also read some pirate stories and learnt about verbs and adverbs. We had great fun at the Madinat theatre when we watched George's marvelous medicine. In maths we have been recapping about equivalent fractions and we have been learning fraction strips. We have been turning fractions into decimals Topic This week in topic we have been writing notes about flying machines like the hydrogen balloon, aeroplane and Zepplin We planned and discussed how to make a hot air balloon in our triads Next week in English we are going to write a part of a historical story and use our homework to help describe the senses. In topic we will use our research about flying machines to make a presentation as a triad. This might be a speech, video, comic strip, powerpoint presentation. In science we are going to do an experiment on sunday/wednsday and we are going to test the hot air balloon. Don't forget to bring in a plastic bag and a hairdryer on Sunday 31st May 2015
This week in topic we were learning the invention of HOT AIR BALLOONS! We watched a video about how it works, made some notes and started writing our information text. So far it has been great. English This week in English we were learning about historical stories. We read part of the story- The Prince And The Pauper which is a historical story and watched a clip. We thought about the different features that tell us about the history. We also compared the lives of the two boys. We also listened to the poems which was our last weeks homework.
ScienceThis week in science we did a small quiz on electricity with our triads to remind ourselves about it because next week we are doing a investigation about electricity. MathsThis week in maths we were learning about decimal word problems. As usual on Thursday we had beat that and it has gotten more challenging because it is out of 42,
Next week in English we will continue learning about historical stories. In topic we will continue with our hot air balloon explanation text and learn about other modes of transport. In Science we will plan our own investigation using our knowledge of electricity. Next Week's Trip!Don't forget we are going on a school trip on Monday! In science this week we changed the colour of milk by putting food colouring on the milk and adding dish soap to make the colour diperse.
Our LearningIn topic we have begun a DT project to design a Mars Rover. The children researched Mars to find out what the environment is like on the Red Planet. In English the children have been learning about stories from other cultures. They've loved reading about Ampata; a character from Peru. They retold the story and pretended to be one of the characters. They also wrote a synopses and compared different stories. In Science the children have focused on switches. In the lab the children experimented with different materials to make a switch of their own. Next Week's LearningOur learning We have had a busy couple of weeks of learning starting off with our new topic 'Adventurers and Explorers'. We kicked off with an exciting treasure hunt around yhe school. The kids have loved researching and finding out about different explorers such as Christopher Colombus and Neil Armstrong. They have also learnt the difference between a primary and secondary source. In English we have focused on information texts. The children first practised how to group their sentences into paragraphs. They also researched and planned their own information text by making concise notes. In Science we have started to learn about electricity. To begin with the children predicted if different circuits would work and then tested out their prediction. The have also learnt about electrical safety and carried out an investigation about conductors and insulators. World Book Day It was lovely to finish off the week with World Book Day. It was great to see the effort that you and the children had put in to their costumes. Star of the Week Our star this week is Faranak. She has been working really hard; particularly in English and Topic. It's been lovely to see her take a real active role in her own learning. Last week's star was Su. She has been trying her very best in English and did some fantastic work on paragraphs. Well done girls! Bug Club The children have all tested out their logins and passwords and have all managed to access the books I have chosen for them to read. Please encourage your children to go onto bug club and read the books, completing the comprehension activities as they go. The children should be reading at least 3 books a week whether it be on bug club or their class reader. Thank you for your support. This Week's Learning This week we have mainly focused on our topic and Science learning. We began the week with a trip to Dubai garden centre and Miracle Gardens. The kids loved learning about all the different plants and were pleased to bring their very own petunia plant home. In our Science this week the children dissected a flower and seed. In our topic lessons the children learned about sustaining the rainforest and created a tv report using the ipads. They also created a woven picture of a rainforest animal. Bug Club The children have all come home with a username and password for an online reading scheme called Bug Club. Please encourage your child to visit the website pearsonbugclub.com to read the books set for them and complete the comprehension activities. Happy holidays! If you are at home or away this half term I hope you all have a lovely time. The children have worked very hard this half term and deserve a break. See you all in a week's time :) Our Learning In English we have been learning about persuasive texts. Last week the children learnt about the features which include rhetorical questions, emotive language, exaggeration and facts. The children then wrote a piece about deforestation and why it should not happen. They then spent time editing and uplevelling their work. This week the children have looked at a range of persuasive text then planned and wrote a letter to Miss McKeever, trying to convince her not to cancel PE! In Science, the children have continued to learn about plants. Last week we focused on the job of the stem and had great fun looking about some celery that had been left in food colouring. This week we've studied the parts of the flower and learnt about the process of pollination. It's been lovely to see all the effort that has gone into the Science home learning. The children were so excited the see their plants begin to grow. During our topic we have been learning about deforestation and also practising for our a class assembly. We hope you enjoyed it! Next Week's Learning Next week we will have a real focus on topic where we will learn about sustainable rainforests. We will also create some art as well as carry out a DT project. In Science we will learn about seed dispersion. In topic the children found out about how animals have adapted to the environment of the rainforest. They also compared the climates of Dubai and the Amazon Rainforest. During our science lessons we have started an investigation to see if plants need leaves to grow. We also found out about the minerals plants need to be healthy and studied poorly plants and diagnosed their symptoms. Next Week's Learning

Class Assembly The children are coming home today with a script for our class assembly. Please encourage your child to practise their lines and project their voices.
Happy New Year and welcome back! This week it has been lovely to catch up with all the children and hear their holiday news. It had also been wonderful to have Tess join our class. The children have been very welcoming so she is settling in well.😄 This Week's Learning In English the children have been learning all about play scripts. The children practised and then performed a short play of Jack and the Bean Stalk. Today they have written a character description of the giant. During topic we noted down what we already knew and what we want to find out. We also started to think about how the world would be effected of there were no Rainforests. The kids were really excited to find out that we will be learning about plants in our science lessons this term. We started off by learning about the different types of root and their function. The kids looked at roots through microscopes and magnifying glasses and made a scientific diagram. Next Week's Learning In English the children will continue to learn about play scripts and look at the key feature in preparation to write their own playscript. In topic they will find out the location of different rainforests around the world and learn a bit more about adaptation. In Science they will learn about the function of the leaf. Arts Festival The children were so pleased to see all their lovely work on display and enjoyed looking at other children's art around the school. If you have not had an opportunity to look at the Art you are welcome to come in on Thursday morning to look at the year 4 work with your child.
