English
In English this week we have started our new topic of Stories set in a Historical Setting. We looked at a story called The Prince and the Pauper. Firstly we identified all of the clue that made is think that the story was set in the past. We found evidence in the language and the front cover, such as :
-Sixteenth century
-bonfire is an old fashioned way to party
-Old fashioned objects in cover photo e.g mirror, pot, carpet and curtains
-Clothes of people in cover photo seemed old fashioned
-‘ancient city of London’
-wooden floor
-Language ‘There was no talk in all England but of the new baby’ ‘family of paupers’ ‘nearly mad for joy’ ‘great lords and ladies’
After this we watched a clip of the story to identify more clues and get a deeper understanding of the characters felt at the time.
Next week we are going to complete some drama activities based around the story and write a diary entry from the point of view of one of the boys.

Science
This week we carried out our follow up investigations to the milk symphony experiment that we did last week. Each triad chose to change one variable of the investigation; for example changing the type of milk, type of washing up liquid, size of plate, positioning of food coloring. 4B were careful not to change more than one variable in order to keep their test controlled and fair. The children used their science knowledge to explain their results and suggest reasons why they were different from the original experiment.
