English and Topic
This week we joined our English and topic learning. In topic we explored the impact of humans on the rain forest. We studied the different types of deforestation e.g logging, agriculture and for the construction of roads and homes. In English we continued to study persuasive texts. We combined the learning and wrote a letter to the Brazilian government persuading them to lesson than the destruction caused by deforestation. I was impressed with the way the children used the features of the text type to encourage change. A selection of these letters were read out during our class assembly. Later in the week, we received an important message from Ms. McKeever informing us that p.e was cancelled for JPS students. We set about writing another persuasive letter, this time to to explain why p.e was so important and that it should not be cancelled. We are waiting for Ms. McKeever's response..... (fingers crossed for p.e on Sunday!) |
Science
In science this week we explored another main part of a green plant: the stem. We investigated the stem's function and why it is important to the plant. Using celery and food coloring we saw how water is transported up the stem to the leaves of a plant.
Next week we will be dissecting a flower to identity its main parts and their functions.
