Sports Day: What a fantastic time I had at my first JPS Sports Day! I was blown away by the enthusiasm and energy shown by the children (and adults - I saw the parents' race!) . The day was full of positivity and the children were 'buzzing' about their experience when we returned to the classroom. I would like to take this opportunity to thank not only the PE department (whose organization, energy and way of grouping the children was phenomenal) but also the parents who supported us so warmly that day. It was great to see you there and the children's experiences were all the better for it! English: In our English sessions this week we have been exploring information texts. The children explored samples of the text types to spot the common features that they must all have. We then went on to look at writing well constructed paragraphs and we had a go at constructing some for ourselves using information that we were given. Maths: In Maths this week most of the year group have been looking at different strategies for multiplication. In particular the grid method. There is an excellent video of this method on Mr Powell's Head of Year Notices page. (Great to watch before doing the homework.)- Take a look! Topic: We introduced our topic of 'Adventurers and Explorers' this week with a treasure hunt for the children to find the name of our first explorer that we were studying. Children had a list of clues to help them find hidden letters around the school. They then had to work in pairs to unscramble these letters to reveal the name Christopher Columbus. Later in the week we looked at the personal characteristics that explorers must have and we used secondary sources to find out about Columbus and his adventures. Star of the week: This week's star of the week is Kyra. She has been a superstar for giving well thought out and considered answers when questions have been asked in class. Great thinking Skills Kyra! Finally Attendance Awards! I am very proud to announce that some of the children in 4F achieved 100% attendance last half term. This shows resilience and commitment, Well done! The winners of this award are: Amaaya, Craig, Eva, Himakshi, Imogen, Maanya, Sol, and Uzayr! Photos of the winners of the attendance award and my star of the week will follow. | What a great start to the new half term! |
What a busy week in school! We have had Maths parents evening and Class Teacher meetings. Thank you for your cooperation to ensure that we are working together in order to support and stretch the children in our class. Green Fingers This week 4F got their hands muddy and started to develop 'green fingers' on our class trip to the Dubai Garden Centre. At the garden centre, the children had a tour of the various types of plant that are available, where they learnt about the growing preferences in terms of light and shade, soil type, which times of the year that they bear fruit or flower. After that, the children looked at some of the tropical fish and fed the Koi Carp. And then for the messy part, the hands on part... each of the children learnt how to 'pot' a plant which they have taken away home with them to continue to water and grow. They did a great job! After we had finished this first part of our trip, we then proceeded onto the Miracle Gardens (a place I had been looking forward to visiting!). We could barely adjust our eyesight to the brightness! The children saw a variety of flowers but had great fun identifying the petunias and the marigolds from our science experiments. Each of the children had a favourite display within the Miracle Gardens, but a firm favourite was the flower house village where we spent quite a bit of our time assigning various houses to members of the class. Throughout the day, the children were, as usual, an absolute credit to yourselves and to JPS -we had a lovely day. Star of the week: The star of the week this week is RunPu for being such a positive and friendly person within the class (always smiling) and for the efforts that he is clearly putting in to all of his subject areas this term. Well done! The Great Kapok Tree: Well after a great deal of rehearsing, practicing lines, voices and actions the day was finally here. 4F performed their class assembly to an audience of parents, teachers and Mrs Higgins. It was wonderful to see so many of you there, I know the Year 4 team have been touched by your support. Thank you. As for the children, there were some super-star performances and as their teacher I am very proud that the pre-show nerves they spoke of seemed to disappear and they all performed wonderfully! Below are some photographs of the performance.
