| Well done! I start this week's blog by saying a huge well done to 4F for being so grown up and so focused during their CATs test session this week. I know that there were a lot of nervous children coming to school on Monday morning but the children coped marvelously well with it. Very grown up! ALFIE tests. Not next week but the week after, the children in 4F will be completing their ALFIE cloud tests in class. The date of our tests will be on Sunday 24h May. These tests are to summarise your learning over the year and you will be completing a Maths test. It might be useful revising any concepts that have been covered this year, particularly from earlier on in the year so that they are fresh in your mind. However, these tests are nothing to worry about, as I have said lots of times before, they are a snapshot of your learning and a chance for you to show what you know. I know that 4F, you will be just wonderful! Kenning Creators: This week in our English lessons, the children have been looking closely at how kenning poems are constructed. The children have learnt about rhyming couplets and using verbs ending in 'er' to become a way to describe the subject of their poem. There were some really good, imaginative results, as shown in our slideshow. Humpty Helpers: The children who have worked with me during our enhancement sessions (Master Builder) have had great fun this week. As Master Builders, the children had a design brief to create a device to transport Humpty Dumpty off the wall without him smashing. The children designed and created some fantastic devices, mainly based on slides I have to admit. But out of the 12 eggs tested, only 2 didn't survive the journey. I think that is pretty impressive! Well done Master Builders! Time Travellers: This week in our topic sessions the children in 4F have been researching what the first cars were actually like. They looked at steam powered cars and watched a video about how the Stanley Steamer used to run. We learnt about the changes to the car over time, things that we take for granted like seat belts, power steering and even windshields, and we compared these old fashioned automobiles to our modern motors. We were quite surprised at some of the facts we learnt! Milk Magicians: The children really enjoyed the science milk experiment this week. They added food colouring to full fat milk, then added a tiny amount of washing up liquid to the mix. They saw the colours magically 'jump' to the edge of the palate. Amazing! This is because the soap breaks down the fat in the milk and the food colouring shows us the reaction. Next week we will be looking at changing variables within the experiment and the impact that this might have. And finally my star of the week... My star of the week this week is Imogen, who always shows high standards of behavior and has a lovely positive attitude to school. |
