Well, after a two week holiday from school, the children have been full of exciting tales of traveling, days out with friends and having visitors over. It has been really nice to hear of some of the fun activities that the children have been involved in. This week has been our first week of our final term together in Year 4, and it certainly hasn't been a quiet start. Planetarium: For us, the week began with a trip to GEMS World Academy, to visit their planetarium. Here we were able to see just what it takes to become an astronaut. We witnessed the grueling training that the astronauts undertake to become fit for space. We learnt about the way that space craft and space suits are specially adapted to protect people from the harsh conditions of space. Both the children and myself were really impressed with our experiences at the planetarium, the dome shaped screen enabled us to really feel as though we were moving through the training with the astronauts! Swimming Gala: It has not all been sitting around watching shows this week, we have had a really busy time. Monday saw the children taking part in the Year 4 swimming gala. It was good to see the children of all levels of swimming ability competing in races and earning points for their school houses. Thank you too, to those parents who turned up and showed your support especially on what was a very hot day! The children really appreciated the big turn out. Mad Scientists: Thursday saw Science Day taking place at JPS. Today the Year 4 children dressed up as scientists - with quite a few wacky ones thrown in, to enjoy a day based around scientific activities. We focused on accidental inventions, with children looking at the Slinky, and researching accidental scientific discoveries. We also learnt how to make lemonade and best of all made some slime! The children involved in the JPS Makers Fair also had the opportunity to show off their imaginative inventions to the rest of the school. Below are some pictures of the children enjoying Science Day here at JPS. And finally... My star of the week this week has to go to our new class member Nils. He has fitted in to 4F so well and has shown confidence and great listening skills as well. A great first impression, keep it up! |
